Planetary Science Decadal Community White Papers and Consent Form

THIS CALL FOR WHITE PAPERS CLOSED SEPTEMBER 2020 AND WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS

Please read the instructions below very carefully. 

Please complete all the fields below. You must complete this form for each white paper you submit to ensure that the paper will be considered by the survey committee and posted as part of the survey project. You may submit multiple white papers. Please note that all submitted white papers will be made public via the Planetary Science Decadal Survey website. 


Please be sure to follow the white paper specifications given below.  Note that all white papers following the specifications are available to the public on the Planetary Science Decadal Survey website upon submission. 

As a service to the community, the American Astronomical Society has offered to publish the Decadal Survey on Planetary Science and Astrobiology 2023 - 2032 white papers in the Bulletin of the American Astronomical Society (BAAS, baas.aas.org). In addition to increasing the web search visibility of the white papers, each paper will be indexed at ADS. If you do not wish to have your white paper published in the BAAS, you may opt out before submitting. Your white paper will still be available via the Planetary Decadal webpage.

White Paper Specifications

White papers should be consistent with the following guidelines:
  • May not be more than 7 pages in length, single spaced, including all figures, tables, references and appendices. Papers can include web links to other documents among the references;
  • Should include a cover page (beyond the 7-page limit) containing the title of the white paper, the primary author’s name, phone number, institution, and email address, and a list of co-authors with their respective institutions;
  • Use a 12-pt font with 1-inch margins on all sides of the document;
  • Papers in Microsoft Word (.doc), Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) formats will be accepted. No other formats will be accepted; and
  • White paper file sizes should be as small as possible. White papers larger than 50 Mb in size cannot be accepted, and files much smaller than this are encouraged. For file management purposes, please compress your figures as much as possible. You can provide hyperlinks to higher resolution versions of illustrations if you wish.
 File Name Format and Upload Instructions:
  • Filename format:"LastNameFirstNameMiddleInitial"
  • Do NOT use spaces or underscores in the file name.
  • Examples: "SmithJohnB.pdf" or "WilliamsJaneA.doc" (If you do not have a middle initial, do not worry about including one in the filename.)
  • Only PDF and DOC/DOCX formats will be accepted.
  • There is a maximum single file size limit of 50 MB.
