Survey with people with intersex variations

Development of a NSW LGBTI Health Strategy Survey with people with intersex variations

About the Strategy
The NSW Ministry of Health is in the process of developing the first NSW Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex (LGBTI) Health Strategy.

The Strategy will guide the NSW Health public health system, while recognising that general practitioners (GPs), private health services, and non-government and community organisations also play a key role in delivering health care to LGBTI people.

As defined by the United Nations, people with intersex variations “are born with physical sex characteristics (such as sexual anatomy, reproductive organs, hormonal patterns and/or chromosomal patterns) that do not fit typical definitions for male or female bodies" (see here, page 2). We acknowledge that people with intersex variations are taught and use many different terms, and not everybody is comfortable with all terms.

The NSW LGBTI Health Strategy will aim to improve the experience of people with intersex variations when accessing healthcare in NSW.

About the survey
This survey is your opportunity to share your experiences using health services in NSW. We would like your input on what’s working well, any gaps in service provision, and opportunities for improvement. By taking part, you will help to strengthen safety, access, diversity and inclusivity across the NSW Health system. By participating you will also provide valuable insights for other health service providers across the state.

This survey should take around 15 minutes to complete and closes on Monday 16 March 2020 at 5pm.

Your responses will be treated as confidential. Participation in this research is voluntary, so please feel free to skip any questions that you prefer not to answer.
This research is being conducted by Urbis, an independent research company, on behalf of the Health and Social Policy Branch of the NSW Ministry of Health. This survey has been designed in consultation with organisations representing people with intersex variations and LGBT people.
