Product Development Lifecycle Self-Assessment

Welcome and Instructions

Purpose

This survey is designed to help you, the respondent, assess the efficiency and effectiveness of your organization's approach to developing software-based products. You may have several different product development teams, using different approaches (such as Agile/Scrum, or Lean-Kanban, or traditional/sequential PMI-based 'waterfall' approaches).

For the best results, please pick one product development team's approach to assess. Ideally, as an individual contributor or first-level manager, you should pick the team you work on or are most closely associated with. As a leader in the organization, you might want to repeat the survey with each of your product development teams in mind... or feel free to forward the link to this survey to the appropriate people in your organization.

How to answer the questions

While some questions provide an 'other' choice, where you can enter a value that is your best and most accurate response, most of the questions are multiple-choice. You should choose the answer that most closely matches your desired response. Please be honest with your answers, to obtain the most appropriate results.

How long should the survey take?

The survey should take less than 15 minutes. At the end of the survey, we will provide the results of your individualized survey to you along with some high-level recommendations based upon your answers.

Survey structure

The survey is organized across four areas of concentration:

  • Product - questions about how you and your customers perceive your product, and how your organization approaches the evolution of your product's features and functionality
  • Project - questions about how projects are planned, managed, and tracked... and how they turn out
  • Process - questions on the approaches used during project planning and execution about how the team performs work
  • People - questions about the people on your team; how busy they are, how they feel about their work, how they perceive they are valued

We then finish with a few questions to provide feedback on the survey's construction and fitness for purpose.

Your privacy is important to us

Please note that while we will aggregate information to prepare summaries, no individually-identifiable or proprietary information (your name, title/role, company) will be shared, nor will anyone else outside of Construx see the results of your survey. Construx will not contact you concerning this survey or your results unless you explicitly ask us to do so. At your option, we will be glad to provide a summary report that analyzes your response and provides a context for evaluating your organization against other respondents. Again, all summary information will be aggregated so that it is impossible to tie answers back to any specific respondent.
