Introduction/Food Hub Background

The 2018 Food Hub Benchmark is a partnership between the Greenbelt Fund, the Wallace Center at Winrock International and Farm Credit East.

Its purpose: to better understand where the sector is headed, and to help individual hub operators understand how to get on and (stay on) the path to long-term financial success.

Farm Credit East will hold all of your information in strict confidence. The resulting benchmarks will only be released in a general statistical format, and the analysis will be presented during a must-attend webinar and in the sector study report later this summer. As a participant, you’ll also receive a personalized benchmark report which you can put to work as a strategic decision-making tool for your hub.

A note about food hub models: we understand that “if you’ve seen one food hub, you’ve seen one food hub.” Not all of these questions might fit your organization’s model perfectly. Many of you do plenty of amazing work outside of food distribution; and in fact, your hub activities might be just a small piece of your organization’s operations. That’s fine! You’re still a part of this sector, and data about how you operate is still just as important.

Please feel free to answer the questions below about your organization as a whole—no need to try to separate out the food hub functions (unless you do that already, in which case, go for it!). If you don’t know the answer to one of the questions, do the best you can or just leave it blank.
