Frequently Asked Questions
(This page will not be included in the actual student survey)
How was the instrument developed?
Our survey is informed by an exhaustive literature review on sexual violence research, relevant federal and state legislation, existing climate surveys, the White House Task Force report, and Department of Education guidance. The survey has been reviewed by student affairs administrators, Title IX Coordinators, faculty, topic experts, and recent college graduates.
What are the survey components and questions?
The EAB Campus Climate Survey consists of a survey core and three optional modules. We recommend institutions administer the survey core and one optional module to all students annually. In this preview you can review each survey component and related sample questions.
Why does the survey ask students only about sexual misconduct they've experienced since the beginning of the Fall 2015 semester?
Asking students about sexual misconduct they've experienced since their time in college or since the prior year would capture information about sexual misconduct that occurred while a student was not on campus for a significant period of time (e.g., the student was on summer or winter break).
Narrowing the survey scope to incidents that only occur during the current school year captures what students experience while they are on campus. Not only does this enable the institution to focus its efforts and resources on students' current attitudes, behaviors, and experiences, but it also allows the institution to benchmark survey results year over year to assess whether changes in prevention and response efforts make an impact.
Who is the target audience?
The survey is intended to be administered to full-time and part-time undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, not faculty, administrators, or other university employees.
How long is the survey?
The survey core will take 12-15 minutes to complete and each optional module will take 2-5 minutes. The survey employs skip logic that creates a custom path through the survey that varies based on a respondent’s answers, keeping survey length to a minimum.
Who will analyze the data?
The survey data will be received through EAB’s survey platform. EAB will provide participating institutions with a high-level analysis of the survey results along with the raw data file. EAB will not otherwise release your institution’s data.
Will EAB benchmark institutions?
EAB will release a report of overall data trends for each survey cohort. All results will be reported in the aggregate and no individual institution will be benchmarked or otherwise identified. Institutions can request to not have their data included in the data trend report.
