National Action Conference: Policies and Payment Systems to Improve End-of-Life Care
One of the goals of the IOM’s National Action Conference is to provide an opportunity for organizations to discuss and share plans of action related to recommendations in the
Dying in America report. If your organization has already undertaken or is committed to action in one of the recommendation areas, we invite you to submit a statement prior to the conference. These statements may be used at the conference, made available to conference attendees, and/or posted on the IOM website. (For more information and to register for the conference, visit www.iom.edu/EOLconference.)
Statements should, to the extent possible, respond to the recommendations of the IOM report by describing current or planned actions in the following areas: 1) person-centered, family-oriented care; 2) clinician-patient communication and advance care planning; 3) professional education and development; 4) policies and payment systems; or 5) public education and engagement.
Submit statements to Laura DeStefano, IOM communications officer, at ldestefano@nas.edu.
Submission guidelines:
- Statements should be 500 words or less. If applicable, you may include a link to a longer statement on your website.
- In addition to a written statement, you may submit a video of a representative from your organization delivering the statement.
- Statements should describe organizational (rather than personal) commitments.
- Statements responding to the prompt will be posted on the IOM website.
- Selected statements may be featured at the conference in other ways, including through print, digital, and other formats.
- Statements will not be edited without written approval from the submitting organization.
- The IOM may choose not to post or otherwise feature submissions that are not responsive to the prompt.
