A 22-day-old male infant was seen in the emergency department (ED) for an accidental fall from the dining table. The mother stated that following the fall, she immediately called the ambulance. History indicated that the maternal grandfather—who lives in another state—had moderate hemophilia A and had been treated with clotting factor concentrates in the past. At 4 days of age, the baby had an activated partial thromboplastin time of 65 seconds (35–52.5 sec). A factor VIII assay had been drawn during a recent clinic visit and the results were pending.
