Enhancing Equity in School Discipline: Practical Strategies and ToolsPresented by Kent McIntosh, University of Oregon
Description: Racial and ethnic disproportionality in discipline is a pressing challenge across the country. This full-day session for school team members will explore the topic of implicit (unconscious) bias and focus on promising strategies to reduce disproportionality through school-wide PBIS systems and classroom strategies. Participants will leave with new skills and action plans for their schools to enhance equity.
This session will start with an introduction to implicit bias and its role in disproportionality in school discipline. Participants will learn and practice how to use discipline data to identity specific situations that are more likely to lead to disproportionality, as well as strategies to reduce the influence of implicit bias on discipline decision making.
