According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), its 'Global Competitiveness Report (GCR) is widely recognized as the world's leading cross-country comparison of factors affecting economic competitiveness and growth. First released in 1979, the Report provides the most comprehensive assessment of competitiveness of over 140 developed and emerging economies'.
It is, among others, used by business to develop strategies and guide investment decisions, by governments to identify obstacles to growth and developing economic policy, and by academia and civil society to study and enhance the business environment and competitiveness.
Because of the small size of its economy, Curacao has never been included. However, MarkStra Caribbean obtained the permission from the Forum to conduct the research in Curacao on its own account, but following the methodology from the WEF.
