6th World Summit on Arts and Culture
Santiago, Chile
13-16 January 2014
The International Federation of Arts Councils and Cultural Agencies (IFACCA) and the National Council for Culture and the Arts, Chile (CNCA) are pleased to invite arts professionals, academics, producers, administrators, creators and arts workers to submit proposals for presentation at the 6th World Summit on Arts and Culture.
Within the overarching theme of Creative Times: new models for cultural development, the 6th World Summit will focus on how globalisation, shifts in social and economic development, and new forms of communication are generating an array of challenges and opportunities within the cultural field, and on how this is impacting on the development of our societies and nations.
The theme for the 6th World Summit will be addressed through two sub-themes:
1. Critical Times: We are currently witnessing paradigm shifts marked by responses to crisis – these are impacting on cultural development models, the processes of creation, and on participation in and appreciation of culture in the world. When proposing new models for development, relevant themes to consider when defining the role played by culture should include:
2. Creative Spaces: In addressing the impact of innovation today and in the future in both physical and conceptual spaces, arts and culture play a critical role in the exchange of knowledge, entrepreneurship and the creative industries, while at the same time promoting active and creative civic participation within new development models. When proposing new models for development, relevant themes to consider when defining the role played by culture should include:
-
Creativity and technology
-
Spaces for creation and presentation
-
Creative industries, financing and entrepreneurship
-
Participation in culture
With these perspectives in mind, we seek to engage with the following questions:
- In critical times, does culture take an active or reactive role?
- How do arts and culture transform the possibilities of development in the world in which we live?
- What models provide evidence of this transformation?
Proposals for presentations must address some aspect of the theme and relate to one of the following three approaches:
1. Role of government and public policies
2. Case studies and models
3. Research, reflections and/or comparative analysis
We invite you to nominate yourself or someone else. Please provide as many details as possible.
