The UK government announced earlier this year that it will introduce a new production tax credit for the games industry. In order to be approved by the European Commission, this new tax relief must be shown to be supporting culturally British products. We need to help the government design the cultural test, so that it reflects the important factors in how games are made, whilst also being able to win approval in Europe.
The proposed test has four sections, covering the content of the game; its contribution to cultural creativity, heritage and diversity; where it is made; and who makes it. The following questions are based on these four sections.
